INTERNAL MEDICINE TEAM

Our Professional Internal Medicine Team

This department is staffed by Dr. Sharon Theisen, Dr. Lori Locke-Bohannon and Dr. Peter Bondy Jr.. Each of our internal medicine specialists has completed an internship and internal medicine residency after receiving their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. The Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency program involves three years of specialized medical training in a program sponsored by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). The ACVIM is a governing body that both supervises the training and certifies the participants of the program.

Internal Medicine Services

The Internal Medicine Department is able to address abnormalities with the gastrointestinal, urinary, cardiac, respiratory, hematologic (blood), endocrine and neurologic systems. Internists can help diagnose and treat patients with difficult or multiple problems. The department is equipped with X-Ray, ultrasound (sonogram), video-endoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy, colonoscopy, blood pressure measurement, and ECG capabilities. The safest anesthetics and continuous monitoring are used if sedation or anesthesia is required for diagnosis or treatment of your pet.

What You can Expect

Ultrasound exams are usually performed during the initial exam period. After the exam, the results will be discussed with you and further diagnostics or treatment requirements will be presented. Unfortunately, due to OSHA regulations, you will not be able to be with your pet during the procedure. We hope that you understand that this policy is in place for your safety.

Endoscopic exams are usually scheduled for the following day to allow for preparation of the GI tract. If it is an emergency, your veterinarian will contact us and arrangements will be made to perform the procedure the same day as your appointment.
