The Eye Care Team

Central Texas Veterinary Eye Care is staffed by Dr. Laura Barnes. Dr. Barnes acquired her DVM from Ross University. She completed a 1 year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Saskatchewan and an ophthalmology internship at the University of Missouri. She came to Austin from Columbia, Missouri, where she completed a three year residency in Comparative Veterinary Ophthalmology at the University of Missouri. The governing board that trains and certifies veterinary ophthalmologists is the American Board of Veterinary Ophthalmologist. Dr. Barnes is a diplomate of the ACVO. Dr. Barnes specializes in all aspect of Veterinary Ophthalmology. She practices primarily out of our South Austin location, but also sees patients in our Round Rock hospital once a week.

Ophthalmology Services

The Ophthalmology Service is committed to providing comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for patients with cataracts, retina, glaucoma and corneal disease. The department offers:

Full Ophthalmic Examination and Consultation
•Fluorescein stain for ulcers
•Microscopic exam of eyelids, iris, cornea, lens
•Retinal examination
•Tear test for dry eye
•Tonometry for glaucoma

Surgical Services
•Cataract surgery and lens replacement
•Corneal grafting
•Eyelid surgery
•Surgery for glaucoma
•Surgical repair of corneal ulcers

Ophthalmic Diagnostics
•Electroretinogram for retinal function
•Ocular ultrasound
•CT scan
