Bio: Dr. Donna Dotson grew up in El Paso, Texas, and knew she wanted to become a veterinarian from a very young age. After taking a family pet to the veterinarian, she became fascinated by what veterinarians do and the impact they have on the lives of both pets and their families. She remembers thinking that veterinarians were heroes—and she still does. As she likes to say, not all heroes wear capes; some wear white coats. Once she learned what the profession involved, she never wanted to do anything else. Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Dotson worked as an emergency veterinary technician, where she developed a passion for emergency and critical care medicine and gained firsthand experience caring for critically ill patients. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from New Mexico State University before attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, completing her clinical training at Texas A&M University. Dr. Dotson enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine but has particular interests in emergency and critical care, internal medicine, ophthalmology, wound repair, and oncology. She is USDA accredited, PennHIP certified, and a member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Outside the hospital, Dr. Dotson enjoys baseball, video games, traveling, and exploring Japanese culture. She shares her home with Michelangelo, a caique parrot, and Teddy Bear, a Pomeranian who keeps life entertaining.
