Bio: Dr. Sam Seramur grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where his love of animals was first inspired by his next-door neighbor—the lead veterinarian at the Milwaukee Zoo. He earned a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota, originally planning on a career in research. After graduation, he moved to Seattle to pursue that dream, but a job as a groundskeeper at Woodland Park Zoo changed everything. There, he became friends with an elephant named Chai, who convinced him to dedicate his life to helping animals instead (it’s a long story). Dr. Seramur earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 2020 and has practiced emergency and critical care medicine ever since, beginning his career in San Antonio. He has since cared for pets across California, New York, and Texas as a traveling emergency veterinarian and now serves as the Mentorship Director at Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospitals, where he enjoys helping develop the next generation of emergency veterinarians. When he’s not in the hospital, you’ll probably find him camping with his partner and their dogs, hunting down great food, or making questionable decisions at music festivals.
